For ACT Licence holders: The Road Ready Centre, located in Mitchell and Kambah is the main provider to complete your ACT knowledge test. They have a practice test available on their website. We we highly recommend you complete prior to attending their office for your actual test.
For NSW Licence Holders: The knowledge test is only completed at a Transport NSW Service Centre. You may have to book in a time to complete this assessment. Transport NSW have a practice test available on their website (links can be found on our page, How To Upgrade A Licence). Once you have complete this test and wish to work with Beck's, you will need to ensure you have been issued a HVCBA Learner Logbook (not the work diary) for us to use to record your competencies
Other States: If you wish to complete your licence upgrade while you are in Canberra, you can do this under an interstate licence upgrade with Beck's. You must have completed your knowledge test in the state that you hold your current licence in.
Links to the practice test can be found on our licence links page
ACT Licence - From February 2022 , when you apply for a medium rigid (MR), heavy rigid (HR), heavy combination (HC) or multi-combination (MC) licence you will need to complete a Commercial Medical Assessment.
This is required for when you complete your licence upgrade as well as when you renew your heavy vehicle licence.
For most people, the assessment can be completed by your local General Practitioner. For more information on medical standards for Heavy Vehicle licence holders please see the Assessing Fitness to Drive page on the Austroads website.
NSW Licence Holders: Before you apply for an MC licence upgrade, you'll need to collect a medical report form from a service centre and have it completed by your doctor, pass the knowledge and eyesight tests at a service centre, and complete the heavy vehicle competency-based assessment (HVCBA) with an accredited assessor.
Once you have successfully been deemed competent in your final drive assessment, you will be issued a Certificate of Competency that needs to be provided to your state Transport agency.
ACT: After successfully completing your final drive assessment, you will receive a competency sheet. You must submit this, along with your commercial medical and knowledge test results, to Access Canberra to update your licence.
NSW: After passing the final drive assessment, you will receive a competency sheet to submit to NSW RMS to upgrade your licence.
