ACT & NSW Heavy Vehicle Licence Government Services

Access Canberra - Heavy Vehicle Licence Upgrades

Access Canberra is the official body responsible for driver licensing in the ACT, including heavy vehicle licence upgrades. Access Canberra outlines the eligibility requirements, application process, and testing criteria.

For accurate, up-to-date information on how to upgrade your heavy vehicle licence in the ACT, including medical requirements, test bookings, and approved training providers, visit Access Canberra’s official heavy vehicle licensing page.

ACT Heavy Vehicle Handbook

The ACT Heavy Vehicle Drivers’ Handbook is the official guide published by the ACT Government that covers rules, standards, and best practices for heavy vehicle operation and licensing in the Australian Capital Territory.

It helps prospective and current heavy vehicle drivers understand what is required to gain and maintain a heavy vehicle licence in the ACT, from licence classes and eligibility, through safety, loading, vehicle operation, and assessment criteria.

Road Ready Centre - ACT Heavy Vehicle Knowledge Test

The Road Ready Centre is Canberra’s leading provider of driver education, offering ACT Government-approved courses to help new drivers start their journey safely and confidently. Whether you're a first-time learner, an overseas licence holder, or someone needing extra support, our programs are designed to meet your needs.

Driver Knowledge Testing: Conducted at our Mitchell and Kambah offices, no appointment necessary during testing hours.

Transport NSW - Heavy Vehicle Licence Upgrades

Transport for NSW manages heavy vehicle licensing across the state, guiding drivers through the process of upgrading to MR, HR, HC, or MC classes. Their website provides detailed information on eligibility, testing requirements, training options, and how to book assessments through recognised providers.

If you're planning a licence upgrade in NSW, visit the Transport for NSW heavy vehicle licensing page for everything you need to get started and stay compliant.

Transport NSW - Heavy Vehicle Knowledge Test

The Heavy Vehicle Knowledge Test is a mandatory step for drivers in New South Wales seeking to upgrade their licence to a higher heavy vehicle class, such as Light Rigid (LR), Medium Rigid (MR), Heavy Rigid (HR), Heavy Combination (HC), or Multi Combination (MC). This computer-based assessment evaluates your understanding of road rules, vehicle operation, load restraint, and safety practices specific to heavy vehicles.

Transport NSW - Heavy Vehicle Competency Based Assessment Guide

The Heavy Vehicle Competency Based Assessment (HVCBA) is the approved pathway for drivers in New South Wales to gain or upgrade a heavy vehicle licence.

Rather than a single government-run test, HVCBA allows you to learn and be assessed progressively through a registered training provider.
