How to Upgrade a heavy vehicle Licence

ACT & NSW Licence

The first step before booking your heavy vehicle licence upgrade, first check your eligibility with either:

ACT Access Canberra

Getting a heavy vehicle licence - Access Canberra (act.gov.au)

NSW RMS

Getting a heavy vehicle licence | NSW Government

If you have further questions, you can always contact us and we can help you with the requirements for the licence you need.

Once you are ready, you need to complete your knowledge test prior to booking in your licence upgrade. The knowledge test can be completed at either Road Ready Centre, located in Mitchell or Kambah for ACT licence holders and for NSW licence holders, the knowledge test can be booked in at your local Transport NSW Service Centre.

We highly recommend completing the online practice test available prior to attempting your knowledge test.

Once you have been successful in completing your knowledge test, for ACT licence holders, you will be provided with a print out of your results. For NSW licence holders, Beck's require for you to be issued with a HVCBA learner logbook which is issued by Transport NSW.

After you have completed your knowledge test requirements, you can contact us to book in your licence upgrade.

How to book in for a licence upgrade

📢 Pre-Course Requirements:

🔹 ACT & NSW Licence Holders: You must complete the knowledge test before your training date.

·  ACT: Complete at The Road Ready Centre located in Mitchell or Kambah. There is a practice test online which we recommend you use as a study tool prior to attempting the test (About the licence knowledge trainer).

📌If you already hold an LR or MR licence, you are NOT required to complete the ACT knowledge test again.

·  NSW: Complete at your local Service Centre and obtain a learner logbook for competencies. There is a practice test available on the Service NSW website (Transport for NSW).

📌 If you already hold an LR or MR licence,  and it is NO MORE THAN 3 YEARS old you are NOT required to complete the NSW knowledge test again but will be required to have a Service NSW HVCBA logbook issued for the HR.

Licence Upgrade Process:

·  ACT Licence Holders: After successfully completing your final drive assessment, you will receive a competency certificate. You must submit this, along with your commercial medical and knowledge test results, to Access Canberra to update your licence.

·  NSW Licence Holders: After passing the final drive assessment, you will receive a competency sheet to submit to NSW RMS to upgrade your licence.

  • In some cases, the assessment may be conducted under a HRV (Heavy Vehicle Competency-Based Assessment) system where your trainer also acts as the assessor. If assessed this way, there is a 24-hour waiting period before our RTO can issue approval for your competency certificate to be issued.
