🚛 About This Course

This course equips drivers with the essential skills, knowledge and practical experience to safely operate a Light Rigid (LR) vehicle. It includes hands-on training in vehicle control, responding to traffic conditions, load awareness, hazard management, and vehicle condition monitoring.

Training and assessment are conducted by an approved assessor under real-world driving conditions, following the Access Canberra and Heavy Vehicle Competency Based Assessment (HVCBA) frameworks.

🎯 Who Needs This Licence?

This licence upgrade is ideal for:

• Workers looking to transition into bus driving, community transport or NDIS driving roles 
• Employees required to operate fleet trucks, small tippers or service vehicles 
• Contractors or sole traders who need to legally operate small commercial vehicles

To be eligible, applicants must:

• Have held a Class C (car) licence for at least 12 months (P1 time counts, but you must hold a P2 or full licence before upgrading) 
• Successfully complete the Rigid Knowledge Test and obtain an LR Learner’s Permit before booking 

🚐 What Can You Drive with an LR Licence?

A Light Rigid licence allows you to drive:

• Small trucks with a GVM up to 8 tonnes (e.g. service trucks, small tippers) 
• Minibuses or community buses seating more than 12 adults including the driver (e.g. Toyota Coaster) 
• A trailer up to 9 tonnes GVM

To sit your final drive assessment with Beck’s Transport Training, you must complete and pass the Driver Knowledge Test (DKT) – Rigid Vehicle category 

ACT licence holders: Complete your DKT through Road Ready in Mitchell or Kambah. [ACT Road Ready Practice Test - Road Ready ACT Centre | Get Your Drivers Licence in Canberra] 

NSW licence holders: Complete your DKT at your local Service NSW centre. [NSW RMS Practice Test – Heavy Vehicle Knowledge Test | NSW Government] 

We strongly recommend using the official practice tests prior to booking.
